The Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn features 10ft by 12ft cells containing little more than a bunk bed. The prison has been described as one of the most troubled in America. Plagued with rat infestations, violent outbreaks, and understaffing, the prison is a far cry from the luxury Combs has lapped up for years at his Miami and LA mansions.

Able to hold 1,600 inmates, cartel kingpins, and other celebrities are among those to have called the jail home. High-profile individuals who have experienced the prison's brutal conditions include R Kelly, Fetty Wap, and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Maxwell famously bemoaned her time at the jail, complaining about sleep deprivation, a lack of potable water, a sewage stench in her cell, and living among rodents and cockroaches.

She also complained that guards kept her up with flashlights and repeatedly subjected her to humiliating searches.

R Kelly meanwhile had his lawyers sue the prison after he claimed they placed him on suicide watch as a punishment. In February 2019, MDC was again in the national spotlight after inmates suffered days without heat or power during a cold snap.

"Astronomers have detected a mysterious blast of radio waves that have taken 8 billion years to reach Earth. The fast radio burst is one of the most distant and energetic ever observed.Fast radio bursts, or FRBs, are intense, millisecond-long bursts of radio waves with unknown origins. The first FRB was discovered in 2007, and since then, hundreds of these quick, cosmic flashes have been detected coming from distant points across the universe.

The burst, named FRB 20220610A, lasted less than a millisecond, but in that fraction of a moment, it released the equivalent of our sun’s energetic emissions over the course of 30 years, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Science.

Many FRBs release super bright radio waves lasting only a few milliseconds at most before disappearing, which makes fast radio bursts difficult to observe.

Radio telescopes have helped astronomers trace these quick cosmic flashes, including the ASKAP array of radio telescopes, located on Wajarri Yamaji Country in Western Australia. Astronomers used ASKAP to detect the FRB in June 2022 and determine where it originated.


“Using ASKAP’s array of (radio) dishes, we were able to determine precisely where the burst came from,” said study coauthor Dr. Stuart Ryder, astronomer at Macquarie University in Australia, in a statement. “Then we used (the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope) in Chile to search for the source galaxy, finding it to be older and (farther) away than any other FRB source found to date and likely within a small group of merging galaxies. The research team traced the burst to what appears to be a group of two or three galaxies that are in the process of merging, interacting and forming new stars. This finding aligns with current theories that suggest fast radio bursts may come from magnetars, or highly energetic objects that result from the explosions of stars"- CNN |  Posted by Thrillz

A second planet has been found in the habitable zone of a star just 100 light-years from our solar system.

Discovered in data from NASAâ€™s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, the planet orbits a star called TOI 700, a red dwarf star in the constellation Dorado.

TOI 700 becomes one of very few star systems with multiple, small, habitable-zone planets that astronomers know of.

Red dwarf stars are cooler than stars like our Sun, but much more abundant in our Milky Way galaxy. Red dwarfs account for about 70% of all stars.

The new planet is called TOI 700 e and takes 28 days to orbit its star. About 95% Earthâ€™s size and likely rocky, it orbits in the habitable zone of the star, as does another planet called TOI 700 d, which orbits every 37 days.

A habitable zone around a star refers to an orbit thatâ€™s close enough to be warm enough allow liquid water on the surface. Thatâ€™s crucial because scientists believe life can only exist when liquid water is present.

â€œPlanet e is about 10% smaller than planet d, so the system also shows how additional TESS observations help us find smaller and smaller worlds, which makes the TOI 700 system an exciting prospect for additional follow up,â€� said Emily Gilbert, a postdoctoral fellow at NASAâ€™s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, who led the work and presented the findings at this weeks 241st meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle. NASA Satellite Discovers 2nd Earth-Sized Planet In Habitable Zone!

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A St. Tammany Parish Deputy is recovering after being struck by a car during a pursuit Saturday.
 
According to STPSO, at about 1 p.m. a deputy patrolling part of Louisiana Highway 36 near Covington, attempted to stop a white Dodge Hellcat that had no license plate.
 
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Kody McElveen, did not stop and continued heading westbound on La. 36 turning onto U.S. Highway 190 near Claiborne Hill, deputies said. Covington Police joined the pursuit down U.S. 190 and onto westbound Interstate 12. 
 
A spike strip was deployed near the Louisiana Highway 21 exit in an attempt to stop the car but McElveen swerved and missed the spikes hitting the deputy with the passenger side of the Dodge, according to STPSO. He then drove on down I-12, exiting at Louisiana Highway 1077. 
 
The deputy was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
 
The Sheriff's Office said the Hellcat was found in a Rouse's parking lot and that witnesses said McElveen was inside the store. As he left the store he noticed deputies waiting for him and began to run.
 
Deputies arrested McElveen in the parking lot and found he was carrying a gun. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center for:
 
Attempted Murder of a Police Officer 
Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle Upon a Peace Officer 
Illegal Possession of a Firearm 
Aggravated Flight from an Officer 
Reckless Operation 
Possession of Schedule I (marijuana) 
Six counts of failure to stop or yield.
