Bobby Shmurda's Mom Speaks Out "He's Not A Gang Leader"
Bobby Shmurda, a rapper on the rise, is behind bars while his hit song was climbing the charts. Shmurda's mother believes cops have it out for her son. But prosecutors and police say the hard evidence proves he is a gang leader. The 20-year-old has been locked down on murder and weapons conspiracy charges, accused of being the leader of GS-9, a younger branch of the G-Stone Crips. I sat down with his mother, Leslie Pollard, at the Brooklyn seafood restaurant she owns. She denies Bobby is in a gang, and says cops are targeting him. Bobby, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, his brother Gervais and 13 other defendants were hit with a whopping 68-count indictment. Police and Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan say 21 guns were seized. Brennan says the investigation started long before he became a hip hop sensation. She says Ackquille Pollard is one of 20 individuals charged in a broad conspiracy that spans two years and includes numerous violent crimes. But Bobby's mother says officials have it all wrong. She says the boys aren't a gang, they are like her kids. Shmurda's attorney Ken Montgomery told me his $2 million bail has been denied twice, but they're trying again. He says they're vigorously fighting the charges and he is pleading not guilty to all of them. by @LisaEvers FOX5 NY
