Los Angeles police shot and killed two pit bulls and wounded another after they say the dogs attacked a man in his 50s who was walking his dog in downtown LA. Officers tried clubbing the dogs repeatedly in an attempt to stop them before drawing their weapons and firing at the animals. Two of the pit bulls that attacked the man and his dog are dead, police said. A third was transported for surgery by animal services. Posted By Persist

Officers announced their presence, and shortly thereafter multiple dogs came toward officers who retreated. One dog who acted more aggressively lunged at one of the officer, retreated, and then lunged at the officer again.  After the dog lunged a second time toward the officer, the officer made the decision to fire one round of his duty-issued weapon, striking the dog. SEATTLE â€” Amy Craven, the woman who was attacked by two dogs in Eastlake, is speaking out from her hospital bed. Craven, a mother of a young child, has been in the hospital since Friday and says she has more surgeries ahead of her to repair her damaged calf.
 
Fridayâ€™s brutal dog attack lasted 37 seconds and the entire incident was caught on nearby surveillance video.
 
Moments before the Craven is attacked, sheâ€™s caught on surveillance video walking past Union Marine in Eastlake. Seconds later, sheâ€™s back in view with one dog grabbing hold of her ankle.
 
â€œI was screaming for my life, I was like if I scream hopefully somebody will hear me â€“ I was like if I crawl on top of this car maybe I can get away. But the dog just had my leg so tough,â€� Craven said.
 
Jace Romine, who works nearby, heard the screams and ran outside.
 
"Itâ€™s supposed to be a nice, cruising Friday morning and all of a sudden it went from a two to a ten in an instant,â€� Romine said. â€œRight when I came out the front door ... saw our neighbor fighting the dogs off of the lady that was walking, and we just started yelling and running towards her.â€�
 
That neighbor, also captured on tape, can be seen armed with a hammer, striking the animals several times and ultimately getting the dogs to leave her alone.
 
Nearby workers pull her inside. Police, fire and an animal shelter officer responded and determined the two dogs escaped from a nearby vehicle.
 
The dogs lived in a box truck with their owner. The two dogs were returned to the owner shortly after the bite, though that owner has since turned care over to the city's shelter.
 
Theyâ€™ll likely remain in the shelter until the city's investigation is complete.
 
â€œWhat if I was a child? I would have been killed. A six-year-old boy wouldnâ€™t have been able to withstand the trauma that I am going through,â€� Craven said. Posted By Ghost

A woman in Oklahoma died after being attacked by a pack of small, fleabitten dogs belonging to a neighbor. Tracy Garcia, 52, was killed in an attack by seven small dogs near her home outside Ardmore, Okla., Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant told the Associated Press. Garcia died from her injuries on May 10. Bryant said each dog weighed less than 40 pounds. One dog was shot by a police officer, while the rest were euthanized at Ardmore Animal Shelter. R.I.P. Three people were injured after police said their dog attacked them when they tried to dress him in a sweater. According to Tampa Police, a pit bull mix named Scarface bit its owner and two other family members at a home in Tampa on Friday afternoon. Tampa Police said 52-year-old Brenda Guerrero tried to put a sweater on the dog when he attacked. Her husband, 46-year-old Ismael Guerrero, attempted to pull Scarface off his wife when the dog began attacking him. Police said the couple's son, 22-year-old Antoine Harris, then got a knife and stabbed the dog in the head and neck to try to stop the attack. The dog then began attacking Harris. A family wants answers after they say officers from the Lodi Police Department tased and killed their dog on Tuesday afternoon after the dog accidentally got out.
 
Aline Galeno and her mother Anna Marquez were the owners of the 2-year-old husky named Enzo.
 
â€œWe never put our hands on your dogs or anything. For that to be his last moments getting hurt, I just donâ€™t think thatâ€™s right,â€� Galeno said.
 
Enzo ran about half a mile away from their home. KCRA 3 obtained video from multiple angles of the situation from surveillance cameras in the neighborhood.
 
In one video, you can see the dog standing before the officer fires his taser.
 
In another video, you can see Enzo bounce back up and is instantly tased again, with the officer continuing to hold down on the taser.

According to a study recently published in the journal Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews and highlighted by New Scientist, dogs can tell when someone's being a jerk, and they use that information when deciding how to interact with the humans around them.

James Anderson of Kyoto University tested dogs and monkeys to see if their behavior changed in reaction to 'moral' situations.

In the study, dogs watched their owners struggling to open a container while an actor either helped, acted passively, or refused to lend them a hand.

When one of the bystanders had helped open the container, the dogs didn't really favor the helpful one over the passive one - they were just as likely to take the treat from either of the two.
