U.S. Army veteran Ernest Walker started recording video when a manager at a Chiliâ€™s restaurant in Cedar Hill, Texas, questioned his military service and took away his food. Like some other establishments around the country, Chiliâ€™s offered free meals to veterans and active military service members on Veterans Day. Walker wrote on his Facebook page that he was eating at Chiliâ€™s with his service dog, Barack, when an elderly customer wearing a Trump shirt came up to him. â€œHe said he was in Germany, and that they did not let Blacks serve over there,â€� Walker wrote.  Soon after, Walker said the restaurantâ€™s manager approached him and said that a fellow customer said Walker was â€œnot a real soldier because [he] had [his] hat on indoors.â€� He asked to see identification, and continued to question Walker. AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) â€“ Della Curry is out of work, and unashamed, after being fired by the Cherry Creek School District.
A married mother of two, Curry is the former kitchen manager at Dakota Valley Elementary School in Aurora. She lost her job on Friday after giving school lunches to students who didnâ€™t have any money.
â€œI had a first grader in front of me, crying, because she doesnâ€™t have enough money for lunch. Yes, I gave her lunch,â€� Curry said.
In the district, students who fail to qualify for the free lunch or reduced lunch program receive one slice of cheese on a hamburger bun, and a small milk.
Curry says that meal is not sufficient. Many times she paid for lunches out of her own pocket.
