There may be a second act for Toys R Us, the retail wonderland for children that turned out the lights at hundreds of stores for what was thought to be the final time over the summer. After joining the parade of retailers that never recovered from the recession and radical changes in the way Americans shop for toys and everything else, a group of investors is planning a comeback for Geoffrey the giraffe and his crew. The group, made up of secured lenders, said in a bankruptcy court filing Tuesday that it's scrapping an auction for Toys R Us assets despite receiving a number of qualified bids. ,br>The group now believes that it stands a better chance of a realizing a return on its investment by potentially reviving the toy chain, rather than selling it off for parts. The group will attempt to establish a "company that maintains existing global license agreements and can invest in and create new, domestic, retail operating businesses under the Toys "R'' Us and Babies "R'' Us names." The investors said they'll work with potential partners to develop new ideas for stores in the U.S. and other countries "that could bring back these iconic brands in a new and re-imagined way." A Playmobil pirate ship set has sparked a firestorm over a figurine that resembles an African American slave wearing a neck shackle. 

Ida Lockett of Sacramento, Calif., said her 5-year-old son received the toy as a birthday present, and when she was helping him assemble it, she noticed the instructions â€” telling her to put a play shackle around the figureâ€™s neck. The toyâ€™s instruction manual shows a dark-skinned doll wearing no shoes, ripped pants and a tattered yellow shirt and directs the assembler to pop the silver piece around its neck. A New Jersey man spent this Black Friday putting together a great surprise for dozens of local families.

The man, identified only as Charlie K., told CBS 3 that he woke up Friday morning planning to shop for his son when a bright idea hit him. He went over to the Toys R Us store in the town of Cherry Hill, where he paid for orders that customers had put on layaway.

He wound up paying for more than 60 orders totaling over $10,000, according to WMUR. 

â€œIâ€™m trying to bring some happiness to people, to the community that brought happiness to me and my family,â€� he told CBS 3. â€œI love this community and I am trying to provide back to it.â€�

A Toys R Us spokeswoman confirmed the good deed.

â€œWe love the heartwarming acts of one secret Santa who visited Toys R Us Cherry Hill this morning - Charlie K. paid off more than 62 Layaway orders totaling approximately $10,780,â€� the spokeswoman told NJ.com.

On top of that, Charlie K. also purchased an additional $2,000 worth of toys for Toys for Tots, a charity run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve that brings Christmas gifts to children whose parents canâ€™t afford them. Posted By PSmooth
