"William Banks, a 27-year-old from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested on December 30, 2023, in Westport, Connecticut, for allegedly stealing five pro-Israel yard signs in the Colony Road neighborhood. During the investigation, a Westport police officer observed Banks taking another sign while conversing with a homeowner; Banks then fled the scene in a white vehicle. These posts went viral, leading to widespread speculation about the authenticity of his imprisonment. Notably, searches in the Connecticut State Department of Correction's inmate database did not list a prisoner named William Banks, prompting debates about whether his incarceration was genuine or an elaborate hoax.
