The wife of Anthony Riggs, 57, found him dead when she came back to their Jackson-area home from work around 3:30 p.m., officials in the Madison County Sheriffâ€™s Office told The Jackson Sun.

Riggs had taken the dog home from Jackson-Madison County Rabies Control, a county animal control facility, that very morning, according to the sheriffâ€™s office. Deputies shot the 5-year-old male dead at the scene when he charged toward a group of onlookers who had gathered outside the house.

A Jackson city employee had found the stray dog five days earlier, and he hadnâ€™t bitten any handlers while he was in custody, Kim Tedford, director of the county's Regional Health Department, told the local newspaper.

Three people were injured after police said their dog attacked them when they tried to dress him in a sweater. According to Tampa Police, a pit bull mix named Scarface bit its owner and two other family members at a home in Tampa on Friday afternoon. Tampa Police said 52-year-old Brenda Guerrero tried to put a sweater on the dog when he attacked. Her husband, 46-year-old Ismael Guerrero, attempted to pull Scarface off his wife when the dog began attacking him. Police said the couple's son, 22-year-old Antoine Harris, then got a knife and stabbed the dog in the head and neck to try to stop the attack. The dog then began attacking Harris. The district said the dog bit two students and a school bus driver, who were taken to the hospital for their injuries. One of the kids got 14 stitches throughout his body.“ He was bit on his fingers, arms, legs. He’s in a lot of pain. He was definitely scared.
