Beginning at the age of 12, Karlton Hines was destined for the basketball court, tearing up the pavement at the street pickup games he would invariably win. But Karlton was pulled in another direction as well, called to the life of the street; reaching college age he attracted attention from every top Division I college in the country, but he was reluctant to abandon his roots. While coaches ventured to the projects from their suburban enclaves, Karlton got more and more involved with the underground world of the street, and at 18 he was a major player in the drug industry.
