Horrible: 9-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot His 14-Year Old Sister Over A Video Game Controller!
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) - We are learning more about the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl in Monroe County that law enforcement says was committed by her 9-year-old brother.
"He went over and got a gun out and come up behind her and shot her," said Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, who says the Saturday shooting at the children's home in Wren was triggered by Dijonae White not letting her brother have a video game controller.
Cantrell says the two siblings were playing the game when the shooting happened.
According to the sheriff, the gun belongs to the mother's husband and two other children were in the home at the time of the shooting. The mother was in the kitchen.
There's no word if any adults will be charged in connection with the shooting.
White was a student and basketball player at Tupelo Middle School, and the school district is offering counseling and bereavement support to any student or staff who needs it.
It was originally reported the girl was 13-years-old, but Coroner Alan Gurley says she is 14 since she was born in September 2003.
White also attended LifeCulture Ministry in Tupelo.
Her pastor says he and other members of the church are still shocked by White's passing.
"We still can't put it together," Pastor Charles Moore said. "The reality of it is we know she is not here anymore but just to accept it is still hard."
Moore was at the hospital with White and her family. He says her teammates and coach were there too and he encouraged them to talk to her.
"They routed the team for the last hooray with De before she took her last heartbeat."
Moore says White was full of life.
He also says her funeral is tentatively Sunday but he does not know all of the details. He says the members of the church will be in attendance. Submitted by Talitha. Posted By Ghost
