Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, best known for his tracks “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Type of Way,” has passed away at the age of 34. His family confirmed his death to Rolling Stone, though no cause was revealed.

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Quan gained fame for his melodic style and catchy choruses. Over the course of his career, he released numerous mixtapes, EPs, and one studio album, *Rich as in Spirit* (2018). His most successful solo hit, “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” came out in 2015, and he also made waves with his feature on YG’s track “My N—a,” which peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Quan was born in Atlanta on October 4, 1989, and became a major figure in the trap music scene during the 2010s, collaborating with notable rappers like Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, YG, and Young Thug. Known for his emotional and passionate delivery, he was part of a new wave of rappers redefining the genre.

At one point, Quan had a close partnership with Young Thug, as both were members of the Rich Gang collective, assembled by Birdman. Together, they released the 2014 album *Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1*, which included the hit single “Lifestyle,” peaking at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, the two had a falling out in 2015 following a raid on Thug’s home, with Quan’s name surfacing during Thug’s recent RICO trial.

In 2014, he was featured on XXL magazine’s prestigious Freshman Class list, alongside artists like Chance the Rapper, Ty Dolla $ign, and Kevin Gates. Over the years, he was nominated for several BET and BET Hip Hop Awards, including Best New Artist and People’s Champ Award. His song “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” was also nominated for Hip Hop Song of the Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2016.

Recently, Quan released singles such as “Authentic” featuring Clever and “Ah’chi” with 2 Chainz, with his latest full-length mixtape, *Family & Mula — Reloaded*, dropping in 2022.

In a deeply troubling case, Garnet Collins, a 51-year-old school aide at the Anderson Center for Autism in Staatsburg, New York, has pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of an incompetent person. This plea comes after a disturbing incident where Collins was caught on video dragging a 19-year-old autistic student by his genitals, causing the teen to scream in agony. 


The incident, recorded by a fellow aide, also revealed Collins hitting another autistic student with a laptop, resulting in visible bruising. While Collins admitted to both actions, the latter charge was dropped as part of a plea deal. He now faces a sentence of one to three years in prison and potential deportation, given his status as a permanent resident but not a U.S. citizen. 


This case has sparked outrage, especially after it was revealed that the whistleblower who recorded the abuse was terminated from their position. The victim's father has called for comprehensive investigations into possible negligence by the center’s supervisors and has urged for mandatory surveillance in such facilities to prevent future abuses.
