" Police say that a suspect, who reportedly shot someone, fled from police, and was involved in a fatal crash, has died.
Columbia Police provided an update on Saturday night, sharing additional information about an incident that began around 11 a.m. with a shooting. Police said they were called to the 4400 block of Blossom Street, Cross Hill Apartments, to a domestic incident involving a weapon. Arriving officers learned that a woman was shot in the lower body.
Police said the suspect then drove the victim to the hospital but allegedly threatened to return to the Blossom Street home and hurt the children who were there and himself.
Officers began searching for the suspect's vehicle based on a provided description and spotted it behind a business in the 4000 block of Leesburg Road. Police said the Richland County Sheriff's Department was responsible for this area, so they requested the help of deputies.
Police said the suspect then drove away as they attempted to make contact and arrest him. Both police and deputies pursued the suspect, who was involved in a crash at Garners Ferry and Hazelwood roads.
The crash killed another driver and his dog, police said. The South Carolina Highway Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating that part of the incident.
The police department said officers and deputies initially detained the suspect, who they believe shot himself in the lower body while still in his vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital but also died. The victim he allegedly shot on Blossom Street is expected to survive her injuries.
Police said no law enforcement involved in the response fired their duty weapons.
The Richland County Coroner's Office has not released the names of the deceased." - WLTX | Posted by Thrillz
