Home Invader Was Fatally Shot After A Gunfight With A 13-Year Old Boy In South Carolina!
LADSON, SOUTH CAROLINA — A 13-year-old boy opened fire on a would-be burglar after the suspect tried to break into his house in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said.
Police on Tuesday night identified the deceased suspect as 31-year-old Lamar Brown from Summerville. Ira Bennett, who was the getaway the driver, has been charged with first degree burglary.
At 1:30 p.m., a 13-year-old Ladson boy was home alone when he heard a commotion at the back of his house. The boy retrieved his mother's gun and went to investigate. The mother said to the Post and Courier that she bought the gun for protection but never taught her son how to use it.
"I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to," she said to the Post and Courier. "I never would have dreamed that this would have been a part of our day today."
The boy saw someone trying to get in through the back door and opened fire through the door. The suspect reportedly fired back.
Neighbor Debbie Griffin witnessed the attempted burglary and reportedly heard around six shots before calling the police. She added that her son was outside at the time as more shots rang out, reported the Post and Courier.
The suspect was seen fleeing in a silver vehicle. He was later taken to Trident Hospital where he died, authorities said.
Neighbors thanked the boy for his quick action, but the family said they no longer felt safe in their home. The family had just moved into the house this past May. The sheriff's office is continuing the investigation and deputies are searching for the driver of the vehicle.
