Kodak Black was released from the Broward County Jail in Florida on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 21), after having drug possession charges dismissed in connection to his December of 2023 arrest. The rapper's release went left when he reportedly got aggressive with Local10 News reporter Rosh Lowe and his photographer. The news outlet captured Yak on video throwing rocks at the crew. In the clip, which can be seen below, the reporter can be heard pleading with the South Florida rhymer not to throw rocks at the camera. Yak can then be seen rearing back and throwing a stone at the group.
 
According to Lowe, Kodak Black also threatened to punch him in what Lowe called "one of the strangest things he's ever seen."

In 2019, Bill Kahan Kapri, better known as the rapper Kodak Black, was sentenced to 46 months in prison for knowingly making false statements on federal forms to acquire a firearm from a federal firearms dealer. In January 2021, on his last day in office, former President Donald Trump granted Kodak Black clemency, releasing him from prison and praising his charitable giving.

On July 15, 2022, the rapper, driving a purple Dodge Durango, was stopped by the Florida Highway Patrol for having an expired registration tag and windows that "appeared darker than the legal limit." According to Kapri's arrest report, police found a small clear bag that contained 31 tablets of oxycodone, and $74,960 in cash. The rapper was arrested on suspicion of drug possession and trafficking, however on July 16, 2022, the rapper posted a $75,000 bond and was released.

On November 16, 2022, the State Attorney for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida filed a motion to revoke Kapri's bond, on the basis that the rapper had violated his conditions of release by driving with a revoked license.

In January 2024, 17-year-old Ikea Imari Hood, a junior at Lancaster High School and member of the Tigerette Drill Team, was tragically shot and killed in her Southeast Oak Cliff home in Dallas, Texas. Just three weeks prior, she had given birth to a baby girl. Authorities arrested her on-again-off-again boyfriend, 17-year-old Trevon Darnell Wright, in connection with her death. 


According to the arrest affidavit, Hood had recently discovered that Wright was not the biological father of her newborn and intended to inform him on the day of the incident. Hood's mother reported hearing a loud noise from her daughter's room, and upon investigation, found Hood with a fatal gunshot wound and Wright absent from the scene. 


Following his arrest by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Wright was charged with first-degree murder. In January 2025, after a trial that included emotional testimonies from Hood's family, Wright was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
