Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The cityâ€™s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphiaâ€™s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphiaâ€™s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington. 
 
Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphiaâ€™s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphiaâ€™s problem. UPS drivers reached a deal this year to raise their total compensation package to $170,000, including benefits.

The driver's viral post shocked thousands who were unaware of delivery drivers' pay.

Thousands of people are saying they might've chosen the wrong profession after seeing how much a UPS driver makes in a week.

Skyler Stutzman, an Oregon-based UPS delivery driver who posts to TikTok, has gotten over 11.9 million views on a video he posted in October.

In the clip, Stutzman showed a recent pay stub with his pre-tax earnings of $2,004 total for one week of work. After all the taxes and deductions, Skyler took home about $1,300 for 42 hours of work. At a pay rate of $44.26 per hour, many in the video's comments were shocked to learn that they earn less than a UPS driver.

The Scorpions group, which is an armed branch of the legendary Gulf Cartel that has dominated the northeastern side of Mexico for decades, left a narco-banner alongside five men who were beaten up and had their hands tied inside a black pick-up truck. The banner asked the â€œAmerican families and people in Matamorosâ€� for forgiveness after their mistake of killing and kidnapping four Americans last week, according to sources in Matamoros and news reports. Mexican Cartel Responsible For Kidnapping Four Americans Apologize "It Was A Mistake, We Ask For Forgiveness"

"A 10-year-old Florida girl shot and killed a woman who had gotten in a fight with her mother, authorities said Monday.

The girl and her mother were taken into custody Monday night following the fatal shooting of Lashun Rodgers, 41, outside an apartment complex, according to a news release from the Orlando Police Department.

The girl was released into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families. The girl's mother, Lakrisha Isaac, 31, was arrested on charges of manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Isaac and Rodgers began fighting late Monday and Isaac handed her daughter a bag that contained a gun. The girl took the gun out of the bag and fired two rounds, according to police.

Any charges for the girl will be decided after a review by the State Attorney's Office, Orlando Police Department said.

Online court records showed no attorney for Isaac. Records showed she remained in jail Tuesday afternoon." - Orlando News
