Detroit Mom Charged With Putting Her Kid's Bodies In A Freezer Lashes Out In Court "Yes I Did Kill Her"
Detroit — The mother charged with killing two of her children and storing their bodies in a freezer shrieked in court "Yes, I did kill her" as deputies forcefully led her out of her parental rights hearing Thursday.
Mitchelle Blair's outbursts caused Judge Edward J. Joseph to temporarily halt court proceedings multiple times as the packed room listened to videotaped testimony from Blair's 8-year-old son and the father of her two daughters.
At one point, as she listened to her son say his mother "killed Stephen and then she killed Stoni. I saw it," Blair yelled: He "didn't see me kill Stephen cause it was unintentional."
The bodies of 13-year-old Stoni Ann Blair and 9-year-old Stephen Berry were found in a freezer March 24 in the family's townhouse in the Martin Luther King complex after eviction officers came to inspect the family's residence.
The children died about a year apart: Stephen in August 2012 and his sister the following May. Autopsy reports indicate they died from blunt injuries, burns and strangulation.
Blair, 35, is charged with two counts of felony murder, two counts of premeditated murder and one count of torture in the children's deaths. Her visitation rights to her two surviving children, the 8-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter, have been suspended and Thursday's hearing, which continues Friday, was to decide the state of Michigan's request to terminate the rights along with those of the two fathers of Blair's four children.
