Two police officers have been shot in Ferguson, Missouri, amid tensions in the area late on Wednesday evening and in the early hours of Thursday. Initial witness reports coming out of Ferguson suggest one officer has been shot in the face and another officer shot in the leg just after midnight. The condition of both officers is not yet clear. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Lt. Col. Al Eickhoff of the Ferguson Police Department confirmed the officers shot on Thursday morning were from St. Louis County Police Department and Webster Groves Police Department, not the Ferguson Police Department. Both are expected to survive. Unrest in Ferguson has been a constant fixture since the fatal shooting of 18-year-old black unarmed man Michael Brown by Darren Wilson, a white Ferguson police officer on August 9, 2014. Following Brown’s shooting, vocal protesters remained on the streets outside the Ferguson Police Department for months. The shooting comes after Police Chief Tom Jackson announced his resignation. He is set to receive nearly $100,000, a year's salary as severance. This announcement saw the eruption of protests on the streets of Ferguson, again outside the Ferguson Police Department, in the hours before the double police shooting.
