Sad News: 4 Kids & 1 Woman Died In A Fire In Harrisburg, PA! (Check Detectors)
"Fire ripped through a row house in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, killing Kelli Franklin, 4, Deandre Terry, 3, Tysheen Terry, 4, Derionn Terry, 2, and 49 yr old Cornelia Brooks.
Flames already had engulfed two white brick houses in uptown Harrisburg by the time fire crews arrived minutes after the alarm, which sounded between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Fire Chief Robert Talloni said. The fire took about an hour to put out and destroyed several houses. It was among the deadliest in city history.
He said the fire appeared to have started in 625 Forrest St., the third home in the three-story brick-and-frame rowhouse that included 621, 623, 627 and 629 Forrest St.
“When it involves children, it’s very upsetting,” Harrisburg battalion chief Daniel Hartman said. “Many of the firefighters are parents themselves.”
Four other people were left homeless due to the fire, officials said.
The fire may have been caused by a space heater, but no final determination has been made, Talloni said Wednesday. It’s unclear whether the house had any functioning smoke detectors.
